Osoyoos and Oliver at a glance
South of Penticton the valley gets drier and warmer. Oliver sits in the Golden Mile Bench wine country, and Osoyoos lies on the lake of the same name. From Penticton it is about 60 km and one hour without stops. The trip works as a day trip, and many visitors combine it with a wine day. If you are choosing between tours, start with our guide to Penticton wine tours.
The area has its own character: dry hills, orchards, vineyards and a lake with sandy shores. It is also the home of the Osoyoos Indian Band, and several places here are theirs to describe. Treat them with the same respect you would show anywhere else.

Osoyoos Lake and the beach
The warm lake at the end of the valley.
Osoyoos Lake has warm water, averaging 24 °C in July and August. That figure applies to Osoyoos Lake only and does not carry over to Okanagan Lake or Skaha Lake.
The beaches have dark sand and picnic tables, with desert hills behind. Bring shade and water. As everywhere in the Okanagan, check the posted signs before you swim.

Our pick: Osoyoos wine day
The hot south of the valley is a long drive from Penticton, so a guided day with pickup is the easy way to taste there.

Oliver and the Golden Mile wine country
Oliver lies in the Golden Mile Bench wine country, one of the sub-regions of the Okanagan. The vineyards are spread along the valley slopes. If you want to taste, use a tour, a taxi or a sober driver for the drive back to Penticton.
